To allow the flow of the wort or liquor around the brewery I’ve used 12 volt motorised throughout the system. I couldn’t use lower cost solenoid valves as these require a high pressure supply to make them work properly.
Using a motorised valve allows the brewery to work with just gravity feeding the liquor and wort around the brewery.
One benefit use using a motorised valve is also that I’m able to control how much I open and shut the valves, So they work a little like a poor mans proportionally control valve.
The main purpose for this is currently so that I can make the transfer of the wort from the Mashtun to the Copper really slow after it has brewed, This ensures that the wort is properly filtered through the grain bed.
Also in the future I might use this functionality to open/close the wort cooler water supply partly so that I can ensure the temperature of the final wort in my fermenting demijohn is as close to optimal at the very start.
The valves I’ve used were all purchased on Ebay as there is no local stockist near where I live.
